🧩 Playing to be invited back
During a conversation with some families about social interactions in class, one parent shared a phrase he often tells his daughter:
“We don’t play to win, we play so we get invited again.”
I brought this sentence to my students and we reflected on it together.
We talked about how important it is to:
⚽ play as a team
📏 follow the rules
😊 make sure everyone is having fun
🤝 leave others wanting to play with you again
Winning is nice.
But learning how to include others, manage emotions, accept decisions, and enjoy the time together is much more important in the long run.
As we wrapped up the discussion, the students decided to create a poster with the sentence and hang it in our classroom as a reminder of how we want to play and treat each other.
In the PYP, we often talk about being caring, principled and balanced.
Recess, games and group activities are some of the best places to practise all of that.
